Any interest in a MySpace band page for MMO?

Just checking to see if there's any interest in having a MySpace band page for the MMO. I've done a personal MySpace page, and they're not too hard to do. There is a Celtic Jam band that I'm friends with that has some of their tunes on a MySpace band page, so not everyone with a band page is a professional musician.

It's not necessary to have a multi-track professional recording -- there are groups out there with live recordings, and I know that MMO has a few of these around. There are some restrictions on the file format which is published (I know that MP3 is one format which works), but I have a tool which can do any needed conversion. One to six songs can be published on one of these pages, and everything is free.

If there's interest, we'd need to identify and locate tunes for the page.

Let me know what you think.

Jean, I think it's a good idea.

Along those lines, we might want to think about getting a booth or something as some of the art fairs or other events going on at the various parks as a means of recruiting in the Twin Cities.

Seems there are more than a few former violin family players that might be intrigued with the idea of a classical mandolin group. Those same folks are likely to turn up at those art festivals.

I know booths cost money, but perhaps not so bad for a 501C3.

I'm neutral on this idea. I think we need to publicize our "park" concerts more. Last year's flyers on gold paper were a good idea. We can post those on bulletin boards at libraries, etc.

Yeah, Anne, I can understand why you're neutral.

Costs $$$ to set up a booth
People in MMO would have to staff it for 2 days for any given event
Not clear how many people of our target group would happen by

Dunnow, perhaps do something with MacPhail?

I think a MySpace page would be nice if someone wants to take it on. There could be a problem finding decent recordings though.

Regarding Dotty's comment on a booth, that might help draw in some players if set up at a music festival. There would be a big time commitment to putting it together and staffing it. If the cost is reasonable, and the rest of the group agrees, the MMO treasury could fit the bill. In the past we have posted recruiting posters at the local music stores and it might be time to do that again.

re: MySpace & recordings

I'm continually amazed by the hidden talents that are contained within big groups. Perhaps we have a sound engineer in the gang and don't even know it!

A rehearsal at that church we used in Roseville might be a good place to get a decent recording of a few songs.
